Union Volunteer
Fire Department

We are proud to provide high quality services to minimize the loss of life and property through fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and helping during hazardous conditions in the Union Fire District.

Stopping Fires. Saving Lives. Serving You.

Since 1964 the Union Volunteer Fire Department has been providing fire protection to residents of this and neighboring fire districts.  We currently have two fire stations covering 37 square miles.  Headquarters is located at 5760 Reepsville Road and Base 2 at 3245 Reepsville Road.  We are a combination department with 35 members including part-time and volunteer.  We staff part-time members from 6am to 6PM.  Each station has an Engine and Tanker.   We also have a 2014 custom brush truck and first responder car.  In 2023 we hope to take delivery of a new 2023 Fouts Bros 3000-gallon tanker.

Union Volunteer Fire Department is organized as a 501 C-3 non-profit organization under Federal and NC state laws, is governed by a formal charter and administered by a Board of Directors.  Board members are residents and property owners who live in the fire district.  They are elected for two-year terms, with one half of the board being voted on each year at the annual meeting held in July.

Volunteer fire fighters (men and women) are also residents of the district and must be dedicated to becoming and remain trained and certified as a fire fighter under local, state and federal regulations and operational standards.

The Union Volunteer Fire Department is funded by and operates on tax revenues paid by property owners in the fire district.  The rates paid are set by the Board of Directors and adopted by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners for each fire district in the County.

In order to meet the fire protection needs and requirements of the district as set by the Department of Insurance and adopted by the Lincoln County of Commissioners, the Union Volunteer Board of Directors and Union Volunteer Fire Department Fire Fighters are studying the problems and challenges facing this district and have been planning ways and methods to best meet these challenges.

A look at our current readiness and financial stability shows the dedication of purpose of our Fire Company and Board of Directors.  We thank you, the people of Union Volunteer Fire Department district for your continuing support.  Our promise to you is to use your tax dollars as efficiently as possible in giving you the best coverage possible.
